Longplayer is a one thousand year-long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on 31 December 1999, and will continue to play without repetition until the last moment of 2999, at which point it will complete its cycle and begin again. Developing a version of Longplayer that depends purely on the human voice strips away the uncertainties attached to the future of technology and is a significant development in the projects on-going story.
We invite you to take part in a discussion and exposition led by composer Jem Finer with sections of the work being performed by voices from The Joyful Company of Singers and Manchester Chamber Choir.
Visit the main foyer of the RNCM and visit the Longplayer Listening Post for free, throughout the festival.
Longplayer was originally produced as an Artangel commission, and is now in the care of the Longplayer Trust.
