To celebrate the world premiere of Ed Carter & David Cranmer’s FutureEverything commission Smoke Signals at FutureEverything 2016, we’ve tasked a series of musicians to create unique, one-off performances in response to this haunting sonic and visual installation. Using Anthony Burgess’s very own piano, these evenings, held at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation, are not to be missed.
Jonathan Hering is a Liverpool-based composer, performer, producer and musical director.
Commissions have included Lachrymose, for 100-voice choir at Turner Contemporary, Margate 2013; Rhapsody for Clarinet and Wheelchair Basketball Team, an audio-visual work for the Bluecoat and DaDaFest 2012; and Veil of Nightshade, a site-specific work for Octopus’ Full of Noises Festival 2013 in Barrow-in-Furness; with works also performed by members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic.
Jonathan performs with the ensembles Ex-Easter Island Head and The Aleph, and directs the Liverpool Experimental Orchestra, a large ensemble that brings together dozens of musicians from throughout the North-West’s varied music scenes. He has performed throughout Europe and Japan and shared stages with Rhys Chatham, Mogwai, Hype Williams and Colin Stetson, and performed with Christian Wolff, Howard Skempton and Arnold Dreyblatt.
