As part of this weekend of family friendly activity, FutureEverything will be hosting Emotional Biodiversity workshops, an extension of the Stockport digital arts commission by multi-disciplinary artist and international award-winning filmmaker Di Mainstone, whose artwork will premiere at the Stockroom venue in Spring 2025.
Inspired by UK Climate Psychologist Caroline Hickman’s term “Emotional Biodiversity”, this hands-on workshop explores our emotional connection to the landscape and biodiversity of Stockport, through the lens of soil.
During the workshop you’ll be invited to dig deep into Stockport’s rich soil, unearthing and decorating roots and bulbs (celeriac, ginger root, sweet potato, etc), before imagining and creating an entirely new species of bulb/plant life. You’ll be asked to consider the name of your species, what kind of environment it might inhabit, and whether it has a message for future citizens of Stockport.
The workshop is for all ages and aims to bring the community together. It will provide a space for participants to re-engage with their surroundings, connect the past, present and future, as well as reflect on the town’s heritage, innovation, and community.
Each family will get to take home their own creative arts pack for FREE, courtesy of the Rotary Club.
