PROTO Masterclass: Scaling Artistic Practice Through Production

Join Alex Boyes for an online session that explores interactive and immersive approaches to thinking critically about scaling your process.

Taking place in February and March 2025, the PROTO Masterclasses are a series of expert-led online sessions designed to provide UK artists based in the North with a unique opportunity to engage with and learn from a diverse range of international artists, cultural leaders, and creative professionals.

As part of his PROTO Masterclass, Alex Boyes will draw on experience delivering projects for institutions like Serpentine, The Francis Crick Institute and the Royal Opera House as well as artist studios like Jakob Kudsk Steensen and Keiken. Specific approaches to interactive and immersive will be demonstrated, as will thinking critically about scaling your artistic process when doing so.

About Alex Boyes

Alex Boyes (he/him) is a multidisciplinary Producer working closely with artists and researchers to build, produce and deliver ideas in iterative and agile ways. Currently working across Jakob Kudsk Steensen’s (Denmark) and artist collective Keiken’s Studios (UK/Germany), more recently this has taken a stronger focus on simulated worlds, interactive technologies and immersive design. Prior to this Alex was part of Serpentine’s Arts Technologies operating its Research & Development Platform, and the Francis Crick Institute’s Public Engagement team translating biomedical into exhibitions.

Alex holds a Masters in Curating from the University of Sydney, and has delivered projects internationally including Fondation Beyeler (Switzerland), Arken Museum (Denmark) Helsinki Biennale (Finland), Art Basel Miami (USA), Mori Museum (Japan), Royal Opera House (London), Art Gallery of New South Wales (Sydney), and Google Arts & Culture (London).
