PROTO Masterclass: Temporary Archive

Wed 12th March, 18:00-19:30 GMT

Temporary Archive is an online participatory workshop style session exploring alternative digital archiving strategies led by artist Sammie Veeler

Taking place in February and March 2025, the PROTO Masterclasses are a series of expert-led online sessions designed to provide UK artists based in the North with a unique opportunity to engage with and learn from a diverse range of international artists, cultural leaders, and creative professionals.

PROTO Masterclass: Temporary Archive

Join artist, organiser and co-steward of New Art City virtual art spaceSammie Veeler for Temporary Archive: an online participatory workshop style session exploring alternative digital archiving strategies for media artists, from technical and theoretical perspectives. How can we steward our data outside of precarious platforms, and give care not just to the files themselves, but to the embodied memories inscribed on them?

Bring a few files from your personal computer based on these prompts: favorite meme of all time, first file in your computer, fondest file, something you will delete after contributing, a gift, your art. Sammie will facilitate a collaborative exercise where every contribution becomes part of a sneakernet archive distributed to every participant after the session.
