An exhibition of bold, new digital artworks by artists from across the North

Eight artists to unveil new digital artworks at the Stockroom opening, as part of the PROTO creative engagement programme

FutureEverything is proud to present an exhibition of digital artworks from artists participating in PROTO, a creative engagement programme supporting artists across the North of England to enhance their digital arts practice.

Designed to break down barriers to digital arts, PROTO provided artists from Stockport, Wigan & Leigh, Doncaster and Barnsley, with the opportunity to experiment with cutting-edge technology, build confidence, and expand their knowledge. Through expert-led tech-labs, artist networking events, and online Masterclass sessions, participants discovered new ways to work with technology while building lasting creative networks.

Premiering at the opening of the new Stockroom venue in Stockport on May 23rd, the PROTO exhibition brings together the outcomes of this journey through a collection of eight screen-based artworks, interactive installations, and augmented reality trails that reflect the ambition and diverse skill sets of the PROTO artists. From immersive worldbuilding to experimentations in 3D modelling and motion capture, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the evolving practices of local artists and their time spent developing ideas through the PROTO programme.

Meet the Artists

Angela & Mark Gilbert (Wigan & Leigh)

A design duo combining experience in lighting and product design with a shared interest in blending handcrafted techniques and digital manufacturing.

Anna FC Smith (Wigan & Leigh)

Multimedia artist and arts educator, her work explores ritual, folk culture, communal activity, social power, and environment, through historical research, co-creation and creative engagement.

Holly Langford (Stockport)

Multidisciplinary artist and designer who uses technology, photography, and interactive media to translate emotion, memory, and neurodivergent perception into joyful, inclusive experiences.

Jayne Mechan (Wigan & Leigh)

Artist whose work explores the interplay between the body, technology, and nature, combining digital tools with traditional mediums to create artwork that reflect on temporality, transformation, and the lived human experience.

Phin Jones (Barnsley)

Digital artist and musician whose practice is rooted in 3D visual work, using software like TouchDesigner and Blender, creating interactive and immersive experiences that blend real-time visuals, movement, and sound.

Steven Saunders (Stockport)

Artist working with digital media, installation, and fieldwork, he uses Blender, macro lenses, and 3D scanning to highlight overlooked details in nature, inviting reflection on human disconnection from the environment.

Thomas Palmer (Doncaster)

Artist exploring the intersection of digital culture, geopolitics, and identity through an anthropological lens, creating artworks that blur the line between fact and fiction.

Vincent Canning (Stockport)

Sculptor and environmental artist whose inspiration comes from a combination of interest in nature, environmental issues, traditional hand-crafted skills and archaeological relics.

The exhibition will be on display at the new Stockroom venue from May 23rd to June 30th, 2025.
