this place [of mine] welcomes more young people to get involved

Offering GM youth groups an opportunity to engage young people in high street themed activity through the launch of this place [of mine]

FutureEverything, GMCA and GM Arts are thrilled to announce the launch of this place [of mine], an online 3D virtual playground showcasing young people’s artwork and ideas for the future of their high streets and towns.

With high street regeneration once again becoming a major focal point for our Government, this place [of mine] provides a platform for young people to share their ideas and inspire change across Greater Manchester.

Since November 2020, the team at FutureEverything have been working with for ten inspiring Young Producers (from Rochdale, Stalybridge, Oldham, Leigh and Beswick). The aim was to explore their relationship to their local town centre whilst learning new skills in collaboration, developing new visions for the future as well as applied digital skills. Created entirely online during the pandemic, the outputs of their creativity can now be experienced through this place [of mine].

We have developed a downloadable Young People’s Guide to provide additional support and guidance, enabling youth organisations and youth groups to deliver online activities for their young people to engage with and further explore during lockdown.

Enter this place [of mine] : What will you find there?

Part immersive 3D world, part online gallery, the site showcases young people’s ideas for the future high street expressed as new digital artworks. When exploring this place [of mine], other young people can also leave behind their ideas and opinions by hunting for the Future Fragments hidden around the world and answering six short questions. Alongside the Young Producer’s artworks are five new artist commissions from local artists, who have created work inspired by conversations with the Young Producers.

Young People’s Guide: Resource for youth workers delivering online sessions

Our Young People’s Guide is designed to support youth workers, arts and cultural professionals facilitating online workshops with young people. Stuck for a session plan? Why not visit this place [of mine] in your session, then use the Young People’s Guide to discuss the themes of the project and spark their ideas for the future. Aimed at ages 13-19.

In a challenging time for young people and the youth sector, this place [of mine] is testament to possibilities of creative collaboration and creativity.
