OPPORTUNITY: Digital Facilitator (CLOSED)

We're on the search for a confident facilitator to help deliver a programme of digital activities with young people in Grimsby

The Project

Working in partnership with the Culture House and The Grimsby Institute, Our Future Starts Here will deliver a hybrid programme of online and in-person activities exploring place, youth voice and alternative futures for Grimsby. Using digital art tools and futurist methodologies, we will capture the voices of the young people of Grimsby (10-15 gaming students studying at the Institute) to find out about their town, what matters most to them and what they hope for the future. Led by the facilitator and FutureEverything, the participants will debate Grimsby’s place in the world and gain skills in hands-on digital making. Together we will speculate and create a collective future vision for the town.

Our Future Starts Here is a sister project to this place [of mine] that explored similar themes and practices.

Project Aims

  • Youth voice: Understand what matters to young people right now and what they want for the future of their town.
  • Digital skills: Build skills in digital making and prototyping.
  • Build knowledge: Learn concepts around placemaking, futurism and digital art.
  • Creative Thinking: Inspire and provoke young people’s ideas through working with professional digital artists and consider how digital art can impact their town.
  • Build Community: Young people participating will become part of a new networked community, building interpersonal skills and confidence in articulating their views.

Key Themes

  • Youth voice and autonomy: Who decides? What structures exist?
  • Place: How do we see our place and what is our relationship to it? Considering perspectives of place e.g. environmental, historical, social and economic factors.
  • Digital art and culture – How can digital art be used in public spaces for cultural programming, how can it challenge, provoke and share ideas with audiences?
  • Futurism – How do we think about the future? How do artists and architects design our places- what would you like to see? Using speculative design tools to consider alternative visions.
  • Hybridity: How does technology interact with our relationship to place? Looking at our digital lives, 3D online environments and world-building.
