Current role: Producer
Q&A with our Creative Director
Jonathan is the Producer, working with the FutureEverything team and partners to facilitate our creative and artistic vision across the UK and beyond!
Jonathan McGrath is a Producer and facilitator with 20 year’s experience working across theatre, opera, outdoor arts, site specific art, live art practice and contemporary performance. After 10 years of making and touring his own type of sited performance works Jonathan took the decision to adapt his process to suit a project and no longer change a project to suit his process. By removing his creative fingerprints Jonathan was able to work across a range of sectors and artforms.
Constant in all of Jonathan’s work is his approach to collaboration with all he works with, Jonathan takes a person-centred approach to working and regularly mentors artists in the psychological and somatic challenges that come with making work mined from personal experience.
Jonathan spent 15 years making, teaching and touring all over the world for clients including China Plate, The Watermill Arts Centre, BAC, Contact, The Scottish Opera, Manchester International Festival, The Royal Court; London, British Council, Without Walls, The Tron Theatre, The Hebbel Theatre; Berlin, Grand Theatre; Groningen, Manchester School of Art, The Barbican, Warwick Arts Centre, Tolwood Festival; Munich, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Royal Academy of Art in the Netherlands and the Montréal and Toronto Comedy Festivals.
In 2018 Jonathan changed direction and joined Arts Council England, first within the investment centre and then as a Relationship Manager in Combined Arts, in this time Jonathan was responsible for several NPO’s in the North and championed artists who would not normally engage with ACE. From there Jonathan joined Without Walls a national consortium of Outdoor Arts festivals that collectively commission most of the new outdoor touring projects in the UK each year. From there Jonathan joined the legendary site-specific art makers IOU and served as their producer for 2.5 years. In this time Jonathan expanded their artist development programme Space, Time, Tools, Advice and launched the IOU studio as a creation centre for the North.
