José-Carlos Mariátegui
Board Member, 2021–2026
José-Carlos Mariátegui is a writer, curator, scholar and entrepreneur working at the intersection of culture and technology. His research spans the history of cybernetics, media archaeology, digitalisation and the impact of technology on memory institutions. He holds Masters and Doctoral degrees in Information Systems and Innovation from the London School of Economics.
He is the founder of Alta Tecnología Andina (ATA) in Lima, Peru – an organisation working at the intersection of art, science, technology and society in Latin America. Founded in 1995, ATA has followed a trajectory strikingly parallel to FutureEverything's own: from festival to innovation lab to project-based agency. He is an Adjunct Professor at LUISS in Rome, a Senior Visiting Research Fellow in Media and Communications at the LSE, and a member of the Advisory Board of ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. He chairs the Education Committee of the Museo de Arte de Lima.
During his time on the FutureEverything board, José-Carlos contributed to the organisation's strategic development following the pandemic, brought an international Latin American perspective to the Nature Directed governance process, and advised on FutureEverything's international programmes and exhibitions. He has published widely, including in AI & Society, Third Text and Leonardo, and has curated more than 40 exhibitions across 25 cities.
