FutureEverything - 1995–2026 |

FutureEverything closes as a company on 4 April 2026. After 31 years shaping digital culture – from electronic arts, through open data and AI, to ecological futures – we leave a body of work, a global community, and innovations that will outlast us.

Founded in 1995, we became one of Europe's most influential art-technology organisations, with defining projects from Manchester to Singapore, San Jose to Johannesburg. Recent years saw FutureEverything at its most internationally ambitious, from AI arts exhibitions reaching millions to Nature Directed, its final and most radical initiative, reimagining FutureEverything as a vehicle for ecological resilience.

The closure follows financial difficulties at a time of profound crisis in UK arts funding. FutureEverything has always evolved, and what it pioneered will continue in new forms.

Thanks to the artists, collaborators, partners and supporters who made FutureEverything possible.

The company closes. The legacy lives on.

Share your memories

FutureEverything was made by everyone who gave it life, across thirty-one years and dozens of countries. We are building a permanent archive of its legacy – and we need your help.

We are inviting the community to share memories, testimonials and evidence of lasting impact: projects that grew from connections made here, careers shaped by its commissions, fields opened by its work. Concrete information, links to articles, documentation of outcomes – all of it matters and will form the basis of a public archive and Wikipedia record.

Nature Directed

FutureEverything's final major project was Nature Directed – a trail-blazing initiative to restructure our organisation and behaviours guided by Nature as an active participant in everything we do.

In response to the ecological crisis, the organisation pivoted to pathfind new ways of living with technology for human and planetary flourishing. Prior to closure, FutureEverything became the first cultural organisation anywhere to appoint Nature to its Board of Directors. This was true to the DNA of FutureEverything, to prototype futures, and to demonstrate new and transformational ideas. This, its last act, can continue to be an inspiration for others as Nature Directed will continue beyond the closure. Learn more

Team and board

The team and board who carried FutureEverything through its final chapter – their contributions, and the paths they are taking forward

Every end is a new beginning

FutureEverything was always about collective futures sensing – too valuable to remain inside one organisation. Our founder Drew Hemment will translate FutureEverything from a company into a method, to seed and empower new initiatives, communities and ways of working. The mission continues. Watch this space
