The first event for the Innovate Manchester programme themed 'Changing the way we produce and consume'
Innovate Manchester is an ambitious new events programme for Greater Manchester set up to enable cross-sector collaborations.
For decades now we are seeing an unprecedented growth of consumer driven societies, and a growing rate of production, consumption, and disposal of goods. At the same time, we are now more than ever aware of the societal and environmental impacts of that behaviour and often leads to the ongoing debate: Who is ultimately responsible for changing the way we consume? The business or the consumer?
The truth is there is no single answer to this debate. If we truly wish to accelerate change and create more sustainable, ethical, responsible production and consumption we have to focus on the things that unite us, we need to work collaboratively.
We have now access to unparalleled scientific knowledge, advanced materials and emerging technologies. Understanding how these might be interconnected and making use of these tools could enable us to create innovative applications and solutions across all industries from manufacturing, production and waste management, to e-commerce, healthcare, digital and tech, opening the way for new business models in the circular economy, zero waste and other areas.
Our inaugural webinar invited companies who wish to collaborate on how to leverage Greater Manchester’s world-leading advanced materials capabilities and emerging technologies to create new business models, products and services.
Innovate Manchester is a series of events responding to emerging global trends and pressing social challenges, ranging from sustainability and industry 4.0 to data ethics and human-centric design. The events will create new collaborations between corporates, SMEs and academia, and nurture new ideas and prototypes towards a more sustainable future for all. The events programme kicks off with a webinar, followed by participatory Innovation Labs focused around different key themes.
Through expert facilitation webinars and virtual Innovation labs, participants are invited to co-create innovative solutions towards a more sustainable future for all, responding to themes ranging from sustainability and industry 4.0 to data ethics and Human-Centric design.
